Missouri Baptist Foundation Cruise Fund-raiser a Tremendous Success

With the overwhelming support of local community individuals and businesses, Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital’s Foundation Cruise Dinner was a tremendous success again this year!  Over 200 strikingly dressed guests arrived at the Sullivan Eagles Hall to embark on the Cruise for the evening.  Upon arrival, each passenger was checked in and shown to their Captain’s or First Class table.  The theme chosen for this year’s event was “The Love Boat” so the Hall was attractively decorated to resemble a formal Cruise banquet with the ship’s captain.  Each table was exquisitely set for the meal with beautiful rose floral arrangements fashioned by Watson’s Florist.   Soothing music played in the background as the crew and guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails while socializing with the other travelers on the evening’s journey.  Appetizers and hall rental were made possible with the help of a generous donation from the Bank of Sullivan.   Additional tables along the walls displayed many interesting silent auction items that the voyagers could place bids on.  There were also a wide variety of tempting desserts to place claims on for the live auction later in the evening.  For a Bon Voyage memory of the evening, guests were invited to have their photos taken holding a “Welcome Aboard” life preserver by Jenna Lochner, Megan Andreasson and Jacob Andreasson.

Following the Social Hour, Tony Schwarm, MBSH President, officially welcomed the guests to the cruise.  He shared the important objective of the festive occasion by explaining how the funds raised will benefit others in our community through the many services of the hospital.  Mr. Schwarm then offered the invocation for the scrumptious Prime Rib and Chicken Bruschetta dinner catered by The Barn & Grill of Bourbon.  When all the guests had completed their meal, Lisa Lochner, Assistant Administrator announced the live auction as the next activity of the evening.  Brady Schlueter conducted a rousing live auction with seventeen different delicious desserts for the guests to purchase and share at their tables.  While enjoying their treats, Brady auctioned exciting gift packages donated by generous individuals, businesses and the hospital.   Some of the 14 packages included an 80’s party, sports event tickets, various parties and rafting trips to end up with a St. Louis loft reception.

The time finally arrived when the drawing for the Cruise was to take place.  Jennifer Aven, Foundation President expressed her appreciation for the community’s support for the worthy cause.  She was assisted by Lisa Lochner, Assistant Administrator and Stacey Dace, Communications & Marketing Specialist, to draw the winning ticket.  The suspense was broken with cheers and applause with the announcement that Anna Beckett of Sullivan was the winner of the 2014 Cruise.  A big thank you goes out to Christ Yoest from Cruise Planners for helping make this part of the event possible as well as donating bottled wine for each table.  The evening continued with more socializing and dancing to lively music by the Alderwood Band of Cuba/Steelville.   A fun and delightful evening was enjoyed by all.

When the event concluded, nearly $30,000 was raised to benefit the Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital Foundation.  We sincerely appreciate the tremendous support that is given in our local communities for the Hospital Foundation.  It is the incredible compassion and generosity shown by many caring people and businesses that made this event and will make future fundraising events successful.
