Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital’s 2nd Annual Iron Chef Competition

Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital recently held the 2nd Annual Iron Chef Competition.  The hospital cafeteria was busy on Thursday, May 1 when two employees competed for the gold Iron Chef trophy.  Competing this year was Tony Schwarm, Hospital President vs. Travis Little, Radiology Manager.

Chef Tony decided to prepare steak sandwich with peppers, onion, and provolone cheese served with seasoned chips.  Chef Travis decided to prepare his favorite grilled Mahi Mahi tacos.  They were both assisted by Morrison’s Professional Culinary Chef Aaron Dudzik.

The hospital food & nutrition staff ordered the ingredients, continued with their daily production, and welcomed the visiting chefs into the kitchen prep area.  Exhibition tables were set-up in the cafeteria, and each Iron Chef welcomed customers from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM providing them with free samples.  Customers voted on their favorite sample and then they were able to purchase larger portions of each in the cafeteria.  All sample votes were added to the number of entrees that each chef sold.  The Iron Chef winner was declared at 1:30 PM.  This year, the gold Iron Chef trophy was won by Chef Tony Schwarm with 135 votes while the second place silver trophy was presented to Chef Travis Little with 92 votes.  Congratulations to both of them.

Kelly Paneitz, Food & Nutrition Manager, stated “This event was a lot of fun.  Tony and Travis laughed and enjoyed getting away from their usual work for several hours and they actually helped each other back in the kitchen.  Cafeteria customers were able to enjoy samples and had fun making comments about their favorite dish.  Dietary staff enjoyed sharing work space and watching the chefs compete.  Special thanks to Diana Kleinberg, Dietary Supervisor and Chef Aaron Dudzik, Morrison Professional Culinary Chef for helping organize this fun event.”

Tony Schwarm, MBSH President commented “I would like to echo Kelly’s comments. It was a pleasure to work with Chef Aaron Dudzik and all of the Dietary Staff.  Travis and I very much enjoyed the collegial competition.”
