Bike Safety Classes presented at Sullivan Elementary School
by Patti Carey, Physical Therapist Assistant
Do you ever worry about your child’s safety while he or she is riding a bike? If your child was lucky enough to participate in one of the 4th and 5th grade bicycle safety classes held May 13th at Sullivan Elementary School, then you can be sure that your child is at least informed about the basic safety techniques taught by JT Hardy, Sullivan City Administrator, Patti Carey, PTA and Melissa West, OTR/L from Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital. Hopefully the old adage, “It’s like riding a bike,” will prove true for these students, and the proper techniques for fitting helmets, using hand signals, and watching for roadway hazards will become second nature. One child from each class was randomly selected to win a helmet provided by the Healthy Sullivan Coalition.
The coalition encourages you to get out and ride a bike with your child this summer--they may just teach you something new! For more information on bike safety, please visit www.healthysullivancoalition.com.
The Healthy Sullivan Coalition is a partnership between Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital, the City of Sullivan, the Sullivan School District, the Sullivan Area Chamber of Commerce and the Meramec Community Mission. Funding for this project is provided in part by the Missouri Foundation for Health.
