MBSH Medical Staff Scholarships presented

The 2014 Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital Medical Staff Scholarships were recently presented to two local graduates who are planning to pursue professional medical careers.  This is the third year that MBSH medical staff has offered their support to local high school graduates from the hospital service area.  For each of the first two years, one $1,000.00 scholarship was given.  This year, two $1,000.00 scholarships were awarded. The students chosen this year were both 2014 Sullivan High School graduates.  Hannah Dautenhahn and Callee Tyree were selected from the candidates.

Hannah Dautenhahn grew up with a natural desire to care for others.  Her father suffered from throat cancer when she was growing up and was in and out of the hospital throughout his treatment.  It was during that time of exposure to the health care environment that her personal desire to help others began to develop.  Hannah always wanted to help others who needed medical attention.  She shared how she found a way to help a friend who needed medical treatment from multiple insect bites by making a paste from medication to apply on the bites.  She is currently enrolled to attend Missouri State University in Springfield launching her education to become a Nurse Practitioner.

Callee Tyree grew up with an interest in the medical field.  Her mother works at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital and Callee was continuously exposed to the health care environment.  She did very well throughout high school by taking many challenging classes that encouraged her toward a medical career. During her senior year, she job shadowed in the hospital specialty clinic with Dr. Peeples, and found Neurology to be a very interesting field.  She was so impressed with how he helped people that she is considering pursuing neurology or neurosurgery as a career.  She is currently enrolled at Mizzou in Pre-Medicine majoring in Biochemistry.

“Our congratulations goes out to Hannah & Callee for receiving the 2014 Medical Staff Scholarships, and sincerely wish them well in the medical education pursuit,” remarked Lisa Lochner, Assistant Administrator/Medical Staff Director.  “We are hopeful that in the future, these young ladies will become professional health care providers in our local community.”
