Winners named in the 2014 C.A.M.P. for a Cause Duck Derby

The Duck Derby benefitting C.A.M.P. for a Cause was a tremendous success once again this year.  The Duck Derby is a culmination of fund-raising activities planned throughout the year to raise money for C.A.M.P. for a Cause.  CAMP stands for Community Assisting Medical Patients with the money raised used to help patients with prescriptions, durable medical equipment or hospital services.

The weather was beautiful for the evening and there was a nice turnout of people from the community attending.  The Sullivan Brass Band entertained the crowd in the pavilion with rousing music until the duck races started at the city swimming pool.  Several groups of ducks raced down the water slide.  The first 10 ducks crossing the finish line in each race were collected to go into the final heat.  The final race resulted with the following winners being named:  Jody Benton’s duck came in first, Janet Palmer’s duck was second with Kathy Reed’s duck coming in third.  There were also tickets to a Cardinal game given to Kelly Muelke for her duck being the last to cross the finish line.  KTUI/Fidelity Communications graciously sponsored the Cardinal Tickets.

Other winners of the various events named throughout the evening included Bob Wessler as the winner of the No-K-Run.  Sara Burch came in first in the Duck Dash.  Winners of the half-steer raffle were Angela Goodman and Dennis Crouch.  The corporate duck category winners were: Thomure Lumber for the most creative duck, the Bank of Sullivan for the most beautiful duck and Gerry Counts for the ugly duck.   The final race of the evening was the powered corporate ducks.  Blanton Construction successfully holds that title again this year by out-speeding Fidelity Communication’s duck.

A BIG THANK YOU goes out to everyone who supported the event by purchasing ducks and participating in the finale event of C.A.M.P. for a Cause Duck Derby.  Many individuals in our community will benefit from the support and efforts of the many individuals and businesses who contributed to the event.
