The 2019 Kids-on-Track Summer marathon began with a kickoff on Monday evening, May 20 at the Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital walking track. Over 50 children with their parents and families came to mark the beginning of their summer break challenge.
Children 18 years and under are encouraged to participate in a complete regimen of physical activity to complete a full marathon of 26.2 miles throughout the summer. They can do it at their own pace with their own style by running, walking biking or skating. When reaching various mile-markers, the kids will be eligible for special gifts and prizes from local businesses.
The Halfway Point celebration will be happening at the Sullivan City Pool this year. It is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 13 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. This fun event is for the kids to celebrate making it to the half-way point of their journey. The finale event will be held on Saturday, August 24 as part of the Fan Appreciation Day at the Sullivan High School. All the kids will complete the last mile of the Marathon at that time.
Even though the Kick-off has already taken place, kids can still register to participate by contacting Natalie Counts, MBSH Community Health Education at 573-468-5619 or visiting the website: www.missouribaptistsullivan.org/Kids. Each child receives a participant packet to get them going.
