On Saturday, November 7th, Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital hosted a free drive through flu clinic and administered 54 flu vaccines. In the past, MBSH has held an annual Health Fair offering a variety of preventative health screenings as well as flu vaccines, however due to safety considerations of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was determined the safest way to move forward was a drive through, flu vaccine only event.
“We feel the Health Fair is an important service to provide for our community, and it was unfortunate that we were unable to offer the full event this year.” said Natalie Counts, MBSH Community Health Educator/Communications & Marketing Consultant. “We are grateful we were able to find a way to still offer flu vaccines in a way that was safe for both community members and our staff. This was our first time to host a drive through event, and we feel it went very well.”
BJC HealthCare is part of the St. Louis Pandemic Task Force’s “Roll Up Your Sleeves” campaign to raise awareness and encourage our communities to roll up their sleeves and help fight the flu. Getting the flu vaccine in 2020 is more important than ever. By getting the vaccine it not only protects the individual and the people around them from flu, but it helps to reduce the strain on healthcare systems in our area responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. With COVID-19 in circulation this flu season, it’s vital that individuals get vaccinated to protect our healthcare workers, our families and our community.
If you have not yet received a flu vaccine, please contact your primary provider today to schedule your flu shot. If you do not have a primary provider and would like to establish with a BJC Medical Group provider, please contact 573-860-6000.
